In a world teeming with distractions and uncertainties, the principles of Intention, Desire, and Manifestation offer a transformative blueprint for realizing one’s potential. These ideas, deeply rooted in quantum physics, neuroscience, and spirituality, illuminate how human thought and consciousness interact with the fabric of the universe to create tangible realities. My personal journey serves as a testament to these truths, demonstrating the profound impact of unwavering intention and desire on life’s outcomes.

The Science of Intention and Manifestation

At the core of manifestation lies a fascinating intersection of quantum physics, neuroscience, and psychology. The observer effect in quantum mechanics reveals that the act of observing a phenomenon alters its behavior. Simply put, where we direct our attention, we place our energy—shaping the reality we experience. This concept aligns with the understanding that the material world is largely composed of energy, which can be influenced by focused thought.

Quantum Mechanics: The Observer Effect

Quantum physics underscores that particles exist in a state of probability until observed, collapsing into a definitive state. This scientific principle mirrors the role of intention in shaping reality: by focusing on a desired outcome, we direct energy toward its materialization.

Neuroscience: Brain, Mind, and Consciousness

Neuroscience complements quantum physics by explaining how the brain’s neural networks adapt to focused thought. When we consistently visualize or affirm our goals, neural pathways are strengthened through a process called neuroplasticity. This rewiring enhances our ability to align thoughts, emotions, and actions with our intentions.

Psychology: Belief and Behavior

Psychology highlights the pivotal role of belief systems in shaping behavior. Affirmations like “I AM successful” or “I AM resilient” reinforce positive mental states, creating a feedback loop where belief drives action, and action reinforces belief. By aligning our mental processes with desired outcomes, we create a psychological foundation for success.

The Power of “I AM”

The phrase “I AM” embodies the essence of manifestation. Rooted in spirituality, it signifies alignment with divine or universal energy. Biblically, “I AM” reflects God’s eternal and unchanging nature, and in personal practice, it becomes a powerful declaration of identity and intention. For instance, affirming “I AM healthy” not only sets a mental framework but also primes the mind and body for actions that promote health.

A Personal Journey of Manifestation

My life exemplifies how intention and desire can overcome adversity and manifest extraordinary outcomes. Born in humble circumstances in Kingston, Jamaica, I was raised in a single-room dwelling in a challenging environment. Yet, my mother’s unwavering belief in education and our potential transformed our reality. Her words, “We don’t belong here, we just live here,” planted the seed of aspiration that would guide my life. She backed up this belief by paying for extra-lessons for me when I was in primary school. She enrolled me in a special Saturday programme for children at the Junior Library.

1. Education as Liberation

At an early age, I declared, “I AM capable of mastering anything I put my mind to.” This mindset led to academic excellence. I earned a government scholarship to Kingston College, excelled in the competitive A-Stream placing first or second each year. By Fifth Form (Grade 10) I performed very well in my Ordinary Level exams.

2. Journey to the United States

My mother migrated to the USA when I was in the Eight Grade. I lived with family members. Faced with the limited opportunities for tertiary education in Jamaica, (at age 16, without any consultation with my mother) I affirmed, “I AM going to NYC to make life.” Arriving in New York in 1969 with only a High School education and 25 Cents from my mother to buy a newspaper, I secured a job in one week and I began working as a Chemical Lab Technician. Through disciplined effort and unwavering focus, I completed a BSc at City College of New York while working full-time. Five years later, I embarked on graduate studies, earning a Ph.D. in Psychology from Rutgers University. This journey was capped off with pre and post-doctoral fellowship from Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. In 1979 I joined the faculty of Cornell University as Assistant Professor in the department of Human Ecology.

3. Overcoming Adversity

At age 18, I was “invited” to join the U.S. armed forces to fight in Vietnam. My declaration, “I AM not fighting this war,” led me to represent myself in the New York Supreme Court—and win.

4. Redefining Identity

At age 19, I chose to change my name to Leahcim Tufani Semaj, declaring, “I AM the one who came with the storm to turn things around.” This decision reflected my commitment to cultural authenticity and breaking free from colonial legacies. I was born during an hurricane and on the same month and day as Marcus Garvey (August 17), the Pan African icon and first National Hero of Jamaica.

5. Returning to Jamaica

In 1980 I received the Distinguished Teacher Award for Cornell University. This unleashed a level of cognitive dissonance pushing me to ask myself, “if I am so good, why am I here and not in Jamaica helping to build that nation?”. In gratitude for the government scholarship that had shaped my life, I decided, “I AM returning to repay my nation.” I joined the University of the West Indies at a significant reduction in salary, contributing as a researcher fellow in Child Development and lecturer in the departments of Psychiatry, Psychology, Social and Preventive Medicine and Extra Mural Studies while nurturing my vision of national development.

6. Building Legacy: Sankore Academy

After trying a number of public and private schools, I was dissatisfied with the education offerings. To ensure my children had a solid foundation, I established Sankore Academy, a school tailored to guild children at their own pace according to their needs. Affirming, “I AM actively supporting my children’s success,” I witnessed them thrive: from academic achievements at all levels to significant professional contributions in a variety of field; Supreme Court Justice, academia, entrepreneurship, entertainment and agriculture.

7. Media and Influence

With no formal training in broadcasting, I declared, “I AM going to use words and music to heal my people.” This intention led to national impact through my hosting radio and television programs such as Night Doctor and Man Talk, reaching hundreds of thousands and shaping public discourse.

8. Building a Business in 1992

In 1992, I launched my management consulting firm, applying psychological principles to solve complex challenges in human resources and marketing. By leveraging insights into human behavior and organizational dynamics, I provided transformative solutions to many of Jamaica’s leading companies across sectors such as government, energy, hospitality, finance, and manufacturing. This endeavor exemplified the principle, “I AM using my knowledge to create impactful change and build a sustainable business.”

9. Health and Longevity

Now I prepare for The Centenarian Decathlon. This is a concept introduced by Dr. Peter Attia, designed to help individuals plan and train for a physically active, independent, and fulfilling life as they age. It emphasizes preparing for the physical tasks most important for maintaining quality of life in later years. You become old and agile instead of old and fragile.

Instead of traditional athletic events, this “decathlon” consists of ten real-world activities or abilities tailored to each person’s lifestyle and aspirations. These tasks focus on preserving strength, mobility, balance, and endurance, ensuring a high level of functional fitness even into old age. I affirm daily, “I AM training to age healthy; strong and well.” My fitness regimen includes Zone 2 training, VO2 max exercises, and strength training—ensuring a robust quality of life.

Manifestation in Action: Lessons from Muhammad Ali

The legendary Muhammad Ali’s triumphs echo the principles of manifestation. In his 1964 fight against Sonny Liston, Ali’s refusal to quit, despite exhaustion, epitomized unwavering desire and intention. His victory reminds us that commitment to one’s vision enables extraordinary outcomes.

Conclusion: Living the Power of “I AM”

Manifestation is not merely a concept but a way of life. By harnessing the power of intention, supported by science and spirituality, we tap into the universe’s boundless potential. The phrase I AM becomes a declaration of purpose, a tool for transformation, and a bridge between thought and reality. As my journey illustrates, when we align our intentions with our deepest desires, the universe conspires to make the extraordinary possible. Let us all embrace the power of Intention, Desire, and Manifestation to create lives filled with purpose, fulfillment, and boundless achievement. It begins in your mind.

A Note to My Readers

I write not to convince or convert, but simply to share insights gained from years of observation, study, and experience. What I offer here are perspectives — reflections meant to inspire thought, not debates.

If my words resonate with you, I welcome that. If they do not, I invite you to simply take what serves you and leave the rest.

My consultation sessions are quite different. They are sacred spaces where I partner with individuals who are seeking clarity, transformation, and growth in their own lives. If that is what you desire, I would be honored to assist you.
