One week ago, Hurricane Melissa roared through our world.
Skies darkened. Winds spoke with violence.
Nature reminded us that control is always shared, never owned.

Today, the clouds have cleared…
but not every mind has.

We can measure the material impact —
roofs lost
roads broken
power disrupted
economies shaken

But we are still tallying the emotional cost.
That storm is quieter — and often lasts longer.

The Visible Storm & The Silent Storm

There were always two hurricanes:

The physical storm
that tore landscapes and structures.

The emotional storm
that shook our sense of safety, our breath, our balance.

Wind stops.
But fear echoes.
Sleep changes.
Thoughts run ahead.
The body stays ready — even when danger has passed.

This is normal.
Trauma doesn’t check the weather report before it leaves.

Different Winds, Different Wounds

Those directly impacted are still in survival mode —
cleaning debris, fixing roofs, collecting water, repairing memories piece by piece.

Those who were safe feel a different kind of heaviness —
gratitude mixed with guilt, relief blended with responsibility.

Both are emotional storms.
Both are real.

No one escapes a hurricane untouched —
not when we share ground, history, and humanity.

And Then There Are the Children

Children process storms differently.

They don’t always say,
“I’m scared.”

Instead, they cling.
They repeat stories.
They grow quiet.
They act out.
They ask the same question 20 times.

Let them:
🗣️ talk
🎨 draw
🎭 act
🏃 move
🤗 cling

This is how little minds stitch themselves back together.

Our calm becomes theirs.
Our reassurance becomes their anchor.

How Long Until We Heal?

Healing isn’t counted in days.
It’s measured in moments when the heart softens again:

Breathing becomes deeper
Sleep returns in waves of peace
The body stops bracing
The future feels possible again
Gratitude grows louder than fear

You will have strong days and soft days.
This is recovery, not weakness.
Healing is not a race — it is a rhythm.

And like the sea after a storm,
it settles gradually, then suddenly.

A MindSpa Practice for the Days Ahead

Sit quietly.
Place a hand over your chest.

Say gently:

“The storm has passed.
My body remembers,
but my spirit is learning to rest again.”

Breathe:
4 seconds in
2-second hold
6 seconds out
Repeat 5 times.

Let your nervous system believe what your eyes already know —
the danger has passed.

Final Word

We survived Melissa.
We will rebuild stronger.
But first, we must breathe again.

Be patient with yourself.
Be tender with each other.

Even after the storm leaves the sky,
we must help the storm leave the mind.

And remember — The Best Is Yet to Come. 🦋
